As a polysaccharide or natural sugar, it has an identical chemical structure across all species and tissue types, and it can be harvested from various sources, including plant, animal, or non-animal (bacteria). Juvéderm® Ultra XC is fully biocompatible, meaning that allergy testing is not necessary.

Juvéderm® Ultra XC has been shown to deliver long-lasting results, with effects typically lasting around six months. This natural cosmetic filler is injected into the skin to smooth out wrinkles and enhance volume. To maximize patient comfort, the treatment area is often anesthetized with a topical cream or nerve block prior to the injection. Unlike Botox® Cosmetic, which relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, Juvéderm® adds volume directly to the area.

Juvéderm® should not be used if you:

  • Have severe allergies, particularly with a history of anaphylaxis or multiple severe allergies.
  • Are allergic to gram-positive bacterial proteins, as there is a trace amount in the product.
  • Have a known susceptibility to keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring.
  • Are taking immunosuppressive medications.
  • Are pregnant or nursing.
